The method
Most travel search starts with a place and tells you its weather. Climatrip inverts it: you say when you’re free and what weather you want, and it ranks real destinations on decade-long climate normals.

The match score
For a chosen month, each destination’s climate normals are compared to your preference profile across four factors — daytime temperature, sunshine, rain days, and humidity — blended into a single 0–100 score. The function is deterministic and open: the same inputs always produce the same result, and every card shows the numbers behind it.
Cool & sunny
Crisp 15–24° days with lots of sun and little rain.
Warm & dry
Toasty 24–32° days, low humidity, rain stays away.
Mild & easy
Gentle 18–26° shoulder-season weather, nothing extreme.
Snow & cold
Freezing highs for snow country and winter light.
The climate strip
Every destination carries a 12-month strip, one column per month, colored by its average daytime high. It’s the fastest way to read a place’s year at a glance — and to see why one month beats another.
Where the data comes from
Climate normals are averaged from ERA5 reanalysis over 2014–2023 (10 years), retrieved at build time from the Open-Meteo historical archive. A “rain day” is any day with ≥ 1 mm of precipitation. The app itself makes no live weather calls — the dataset ships with the site.
How itineraries are made
Itineraries are pre-generated and human-reviewed. They are deliberately structural — day themes, neighborhoods, activity types, and pacing — and never include prices, opening hours, or specific business names, because those go stale. Every file is validated against a schema and a content filter before it ships.

There are no accounts. Saved trips live only in this browser and are readable offline. Clearing site data removes them.

Deterministic scoring
Match scores are a pure function of the climate normals — same inputs, same score, every time.
